This image shows fluorescent staining in a mouse brain model of Alzheimer’s disease. The green fluorescence is phosphorylated tau tangles, red fluorescence is the astrocyte marker, GFAP. Co-localization suggests the astrocytes are taking up phospho-tau to clear it from the brain. Alternatively, this interaction might trigger a pro-inflammatory response, contributing to disease progression and neurodegeneration.
