This image shows fluorescently tagged RNA transcripts of Parvalbumin (green), Somatostatin (red), Vesicular Glutamate Transporter 1 (cyan), and Green Fluorescent Protein (purple). The Green Fluorescent Protein is expressed only in cells that were activated by amphetamine administration (via the Fos-TRAP activity-dependent tagging system). The point of the experiment was to characterize the cellular subtypes of an amphetamine-activated ensemble in the mPFC, as a means of working toward dissecting the relevance of the mPFC amphetamine ensemble for sustained attention task performance.
