Mapping sound frequencies in the cortex

OneNeuro Initiative - Mapping sound frequencies in the cortex Page Image

Lab: Patrick Kanold Laboratory

Using advanced imaging in genetically modified mice, the Kanold lab can visualize how individual brain cells in the auditory cortex respond to different sound frequencies. Each neuron is tuned to specific tones, and this color-coded map reveals how these preferences are organized across space, with preferred responses to low tones in blue and progressing to higher frequencies in red.
